Our Story

From Local Passion to National Impact

We Got Your Back (WGYB) was born out of a simple but powerful idea: every child and youth deserves a chance—regardless of where they come from. In 2019, a group of passionate young Rwandans came together with a vision to uplift underserved communities by addressing the most pressing challenges facing children and youth.

What began as a grassroots initiative quickly evolved into a dynamic, legally registered non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to empowering the next generation. With a shared commitment to compassion, inclusivity, and social justice, WGYB has grown to become a trusted partner in education, youth development, gender equality, environmental conservation, and peacebuilding.

💡 Why We Started

In communities across Rwanda, many children are unable to attend school, youth struggle with unemployment, and families face ongoing social and economic challenges. The founders of WGYB saw these realities up close—and chose not to look away. Instead, they took action.

They launched WGYB to become a beacon of hope—a support system where no child is forgotten, and no young person is left behind. Through collaboration with local leaders, schools, parents, and youth themselves, WGYB began creating pathways for opportunity, growth, and lasting change.

🌱 How We Grew

From our very first scholarship to our first tree planting campaign, every milestone has been community-driven. Our team has grown from a few volunteers to a nationwide network of youth leaders, mentors, educators, and partners who are committed to creating a fairer, greener, and more peaceful Rwanda.
